About Campaign GIF Blood Donation Camp 15th August 2010:

The majority of the world’s population has an urgent need for safe blood. Of the estimated 80 million units of blood donated annually worldwide, only 38% are collected in the developing world where 82% of the world’s population lives.

In India any able-bodied individual between the age of 18 and 60 years can donate blood up to 168 times

Around 8 million units of blood every year in our country needed but only half that is around 4 million units can be obtained from voluntary blood donors. Rest all comes from replacement blood donation from relatives or paid donors. Just three teaspoons of blood can save the life of a premature baby. If you donate blood, you can help in saving lives of many patients.

When we need blood for ourself or for a relative, we think that its our right to receive blood. We are ready to pay money for a few bottles of blood but unfortunately it is not something that can be manufactured in a factory as needed

We at GO INDIA FOUNDATION felt the need of hour and thus decided to show the united effort of our great Nation. We have targeted for 63,000 units of Blood from all over India on our 63rd Independence Day.

Benefits to Donors:

Donors will get a Free medical examination including medical history, hemoglobin estimation and blood group determination. The donated blood will be tested for hepatitis B, C, HIV viruses, syphilis microbe, together with liver function tests also HCV RNA by PCR. You will receive the results confidentially or if you want they can be mailed to you. A Souvenir and a Certificate will also be given to all donors along with the Replacement Donor Card which they can use for their future need, if any. Refreshment will also be served to all Donors.

2. Blood donation can reduce the overall iron levels in blood, which may protect against heart attack.

4. You hardly lose blood, average adult has 10 pints of total blood, we donate just 1 pint. Giving blood will not decrease your strength.
